Making mental health make sense
Founding Consultant at Schulte Consulting, LLC
When I began, very few people talked about mental health needs in our state. Today, it polls very high in the public discourse.
People are paying attention to the ongoing challenges faced by Iowans whether it be regionalization of the adult system, transtion to managed care, lack of integration between substance abuse and mental health or failed attempts at creating a children’s system.
In spite of all the public interest, it continues to be difficult to get information about mental health. Oh, there is a lot of information out there, but no one is compiling it in a simple, understandable way. That’s when I made a decision to begin to write a blog again.
The goal of this site will be to make the complicated, simple. Regualrly, I will provide information to assist with access of services, highlight regional innovations, discuss pertinent legislation and rules, and attempt to help Iowans understand how to get mental health help they need.
I have been a licensed mental health therapist since 1997 working in all settings with all ages. As a policy maker, I worked to pass the adult system regionalization. As a consultant, I have had the opportunity to write administrative rules to support regionalization and work in various states to plan and implement improved mental health systems.
I invite you to follow my blog as we continue to improve our system. You can also reach me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to give me your ideas and feedback!
